The year 2020 is still dominated by the coronavirus pandemic. This event has been a turning point for all of us, not just the scientific community. It has shown us once again that it is important to be prepared: To be ready to diagnose, identify and monitor new pathogens, and to be well equipped to counter such biological threats. In this respect, Medical Biological Defence Research has also made an important contribution worldwide.
It will also be important for all of us, after one and a half years of virtual conferences, to have personal scientific discussions again on other topics of medical biodefense. Only thus will we be able to react quickly to challenges that lie ahead of us and that may still be unknown to us.
Therefore, I would like to continue the long tradition of the IMB as host of our conference and cordially invite you to the 17th Medical Biodefense Conference in Munich from 28 September to 01 October 2021.
SARS-CoV-2 will of course be a much-discussed topic, but there will also be ample room for discussions on other relevant topics of biological defence, featuring the latest developments in pathogen identification, bioforensics and antimicrobial treatment. In addition to sessions on specific pathogens, new approaches for prophylaxis and therapy will play a central role in our upcoming conference programme.
Make sure to be there and take part in our discussions. I look forward to welcoming you personally.
