Registration is open!

Dear colleagues,

I hope you are all well in these still challenging times.

This is a short update to inform you that preparations for our Medical Biodefense Conference 2021 are underway.

As we cannot predict how the pandemic will develop further, we have decided to adjust the registration process for the conference this year. It is very important to us to welcome as many of you as possible for a personal exchange here in Germany. However, at this stage, we all cannot be sure how many participants will be able to travel to Munich at the end of September. Therefore, we have set up the registration for the conference according to the principle „pre-register now – pay later“.  This way we can limit the financial risk for you. At the same time, we can open the conference to additional participants as soon as German health regulations allow. As soon as we can confirm your participation, we will send you further details based on your pre-registration.

Until then, we will work hard to put together an interesting and exciting scientific program. Once again, I cordially invite you to submit an abstract about your research via our abstract portal.  The deadline for submission is 30June. This still gives us enough time to put together a final program and help you organize your travel and accommodation.

Stay well!

Yours sincerely,

Roman Wölfel, MD PhD DTMH

Welcome to Munich

Dear Colleagues,

The year 2020 is still dominated by the coronavirus pandemic. This event has been a turning point for all of us, not just the scientific community. It has shown us once again that it is important to be prepared: To be ready to diagnose, identify and monitor new pathogens, and to be well equipped to counter such biological threats. In this respect, Medical Biological Defence Research has also made an important contribution worldwide.

It will also be important for all of us, after one and a half years of virtual conferences, to have personal scientific discussions again on other topics of medical biodefense. Only thus will we be able to react quickly to challenges that lie ahead of us and that may still be unknown to us.

Therefore, I would like to continue the long tradition of the IMB as host of our conference and cordially invite you to the 17th Medical Biodefense Conference in Munich from 28 September to 01 October 2021.

SARS-CoV-2 will of course be a much-discussed topic, but there will also be ample room for discussions on other relevant topics of biological defence, featuring the latest developments in pathogen identification, bioforensics and antimicrobial treatment. In addition to sessions on specific pathogens, new approaches for prophylaxis and therapy will play a central role in our upcoming conference programme.

Make sure to be there and take part in our discussions. I look forward to welcoming you personally.

Sincerely yours,
